Mineral Wells has a personality all its own, and part of its charm is how it’s divided into four distinct sections — the northwest, southwest, northeast, and southeast sides of town. Each has something special to offer, but for me, the Northwest side will always have a unique place in my heart.
Having called this neighborhood home for more than 25 years, I can honestly say it’s one of the true gems of Mineral Wells. The streets are lined with homes that tell stories from every decade of the 20th century — from grand early-1900s architecture to mid-century charm and modern updates. Every turn feels like stepping through a living timeline of our town’s history.
But what really sets the Northwest side apart is its unbeatable location. Residents are just a short walk from the beautifully restored Crazy Water Hotel, with its boutique shops and vibrant atmosphere. Around the corner, you’ll find the cozy Magpie Inn Bed & Breakfast, our local dog park, and the soon-to-be-finished pickleball courts — perfect for a friendly game on a sunny afternoon. And of course, no weekend is complete without a trip to The Market at 76067 or one of the many restaurants nearby.
Life here feels a little slower and a lot friendlier. Neighbors wave as they walk their dogs or ride their bikes, and evening strolls often turn into impromptu chats across front yards. Whether you’re drawn to historic homes, walkable living, or simply a welcoming community, the Northwest side of Mineral Wells offers a perfect mix of history, convenience, and small-town charm.

SE Mineral Wells, Texas, is a neighborhood where history, community, and everyday convenience come together, offering a true slice of classic mid‑century small‑town life. It’s an area shaped by the growth of Mineral Wells itself, with homes and streets that still reflect the story of how this part of town came to be.
Like the rest of Mineral Wells, the southeast side features a mixture of homes ranging from a few early 1900s properties to today’s newer housing developments. This variety gives the neighborhood a lived‑in, established feel, where each street can look just a little different from the next.
The heart of SE Mineral Wells, however, was built during the 1950s through the late 1960s, when the reactivation of Fort Wolters brought a surge of military personnel and their families into the city. As the Army’s helicopter training center for pilots during the Vietnam War, Fort Wolters created a strong, steady demand for housing, and builders responded with new streets, new floor plans, and new neighborhoods.
Classic 1950s–1970s Homes and Floor Plans
Much of the SE side showcases 1950s–1970s style homes that were designed for the way families lived at that time—practical, efficient, and comfortable. The streets include everything from small frame homes to larger brick homes, depending on which pocket of the southeast side you’re in.
Reminiscent of a time when smaller homes were the norm, you’ll find many 3‑bedroom, 1‑bath houses throughout this area. These homes are often ideal for first‑time buyers, downsizers, or anyone who appreciates modest square footage, simpler maintenance, and the charm of mid‑century design. The larger brick homes offer more space and presence while still feeling connected to the neighborhood’s original character.
Schools Right in the Neighborhood
One of the biggest advantages of SE Mineral Wells is access to local schools within the neighborhood itself. Families appreciate having multiple campuses nearby, helping keep daily routines easy and commutes short.
*Lamar Elementary – Serving pre‑school through first grade, located on SE 12th St.
*Mineral Wells Jr. High – Serving 7th and 8th grades, located on SE 14th Ave.
*Travis Elementary – Serving 4th through 6th grades, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
With schools spread throughout the area, many students can walk or enjoy a quick ride, reinforcing the community feel that comes from seeing familiar faces at drop‑off, pick‑up, and school events.
Everyday Convenience and Local Living
As with many older, established neighborhoods, SE Mineral Wells includes a scattering of small convenience stores and gas stations throughout. These spots make it easy to grab fuel, snacks, or last‑minute essentials without leaving the area.
For those who prefer rental options or need more flexible housing, the neighborhood also offers:
*Peak Townhomes – A newer rental option for those seeking more updated living without purchasing.
*Southridge Apartments of Mineral Wells – Income‑based housing.
*Royal Gardens – A newer income‑limited senior living community reserved for residents 55 and older.
These options give SE Mineral Wells a diverse mix of homeowners and renters, including young families, working professionals, and seniors who want to remain close to services and community.
Southeast Park: Recreation at the Center
Another standout perk of this neighborhood is Southeast Park, located on SE 15th St. This park underwent extensive renovations in 2022, transforming it into a lively outdoor hub for residents of all ages.
The updated park now includes:
*New playground equipment for children
*Two pavilions with picnic tables, perfect for birthday parties and family gatherings
*Two basketball courts for pickup games and after‑school fun
*Restrooms for added comfort and convenience
On any given day, you’re likely to see families playing, kids riding bikes, and neighbors gathering under the pavilions, making Southeast Park a true centerpiece of life on the SE side.
