Graford, Texas is a small community of approximately 647 people according to the 2020 national census. Located about 15 miles northwest of Mineral Wells, Graford is a rural community that interestingly derived it’s name (according to texasescapes.com) by combining neighboring cities GRAham and WeatherFORD. Graford is located halfway between each city.
Graford Independent School District services the community with Graford Elementary School of pre-school thru fifth grade and Graford High School which includes sixth thru twelfth grades.
Although a quiet community, many people who have settled here have done so because they enjoy the rural atmosphere and enjoy owning land and cattle. You may have to drive 15 minutes or so, but there are a number of places to visit for entertainment. Possum Kingdom Lake is about twelve miles from Graford with public boat ramps, fishing, camping and swimming. Coming into Mineral Wells, you will find Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Mineral Wells Fossil Park and several boutique style shopping venues and restaurants.
